HD Festival to be held in Edinburgh
Sweet Entertainments Ltd are to present a Festival of High Definition from August 26-30, in both the luxury surroundings of Edinburgh's four-star Radisson SAS Hotel and the Royal Museums of Scotland.
Focusing mainly on educating industry professionals as to the merits of HD, the aim is to bring art and the new technology together by presenting a wide range of panel-led discussions. These will be chaired by Julian Mitchell of High Definition Magazine, with guest speakers showing examples of their HD work from their particular expertise and leading lively discussions. Areas specifically covered are titled Unravelling HD, The View from DoPs Directors and Producers, Possibilities in Post-Production, HDTV - What is in store? and An HD Project in Close-Up.
Maria Whiteford, Sweet HD Festival's Artisitic Director said: "The idea of the Festival came after several years of running venues at the Edinburgh Fringe, and grew gradually from the interest expressed by professionals while researching the initial idea of setting up a cinema in one of our venues ... we have now expanded our programme of events to include education and discussion, thereby creating a platform to promote and demystify HD. Through our various talks with key personnel in the field, we have come to realise that a UK based HD Festival has long been awaited. It is therefore with enthusiasm that we have received enquiries and support from all levels of industry professionals, and we are proud to announce our first Sweet HD Festival."
Screenings of features, documentaries and shorts shot in HD will also be shown in competition, as well as special showings of films shot on HD, including '16 Years of Alcohol', 'Dogville' and 'Deep Blue.'
