EUROPE STAR DELIVERS BBC INTERACTIVE MULTIPLEX

EUROPE Star and their Europe Star 1 satellite enabled the BBC the cover of the Open Golf Championship at Royal Lytham & St. Annes through contribution of six-channels into the BBC’s interactive television platform.
This was the first time that the BBC had transmitted their interactive service from a sporting venue, via satellite. The Wimbledon interactive service was brought back to Television Centre by terrestrial means.
Chris Cobb, Senior Communications Supervisor with BBC Resources, said: “This was a significant step forward for the BBC’s provision of interactive services directly from the event by satellite and will represent the first of many in the future.”
The Europe Star 1 satellite provides high powered Ku -Band links between five major
trading regions, Europe, Southern Africa, the Middle East, the Indian subcontinent and South East Asia.
