LiveU Announces Most Successful Deplotment In Its History
LiveU has reported the most successful deployment in its history at the 2024 Summer Games in Paris.
With over 1,000 LiveU portable units in action, serving broadcasters from 62 countries, and delivering more than 70,000 hours of live broadcasts, the event has set new benchmarks for the use of LiveU for global news and sports coverage.
LiveU's IP-video EcoSystem was the backbone for its customers' live streaming during the Games, representing a nearly 40% increase compared to the Tokyo Games. The deployment handled a massive 62TB of data transmission, further demonstrating the trust of broadcasters in LiveU’s IP-video technology.
From inside the grand competition venues and boats on the Seine during the Opening Ceremony to the athlete Village, and vibrant streets around Paris, LiveU’s IP 5G bonding technology with optimized data plans provided resilient and versatile live coverage. LiveU's LU800 multi-camera encoders enabled broadcasters to bring all the action and atmosphere to viewers back home, without the restriction of traditional broadcast equipment. Over 50 percent of the LiveU units took advantage of the local 5G network infrastructure to achieve maximum performance with increased bandwidth efficiency.
LiveU's cloud solutions also played a key role, with the LiveU Matrix cloud IP distribution platform enabling key moments to be shared in real-time; around 800 live feeds were grabbed by global takers. Additional solutions deployed included LiveU Ingest for automatic recording, speeding up the production workflow, and LiveU's remote production tools like Video Return, which ensured high-quality live broadcasts between the crew and control room.
Combined with a remote production workflow, LiveU's solutions promoted greater sustainability, reducing travel and the transport of heavy equipment.
"The 2024 Summer Games is a testament to LiveU's ongoing commitment to innovation and customer support. By enabling broadcasters to produce more content from locations around Paris with an efficient set-up, LiveU has once again proven its value as a trusted partner in live broadcasting. We're honoured to support broadcasters from around the world, helping them deliver exceptional coverage with our resilient IP-video solutions and efficient workflows. This event has truly showcased the reliability, quality, and flexibility of our technology while ensuring the peace of mind that is critical for a global event like this," said Omer Feingold, Vice President of Sales Engineering & Events Management, LiveU.
Camera crews from all around the world used LiveU around Paris, including:
Jordan Anthony Forte, Presenter, TV Jamaica: "Covering the Games here in Paris, LiveU helps us to uplink all the live content quickly and efficiently to our base back home in Jamaica, allowing them to have it immediately and post in real-time. Nowadays, it's all about the quick delivery of content and LiveU helps us to do that. We're producing content for daily news reporting, and we have sports reports on a nightly basis. There's also a panel discussion program that we broadcast live and we're producing features for that as well. Working with the LiveU team here, it's been really smooth. We picked up the units at the IBC, and there were no issues. It's difficult crossing borders with so much equipment, we already travel with our own camera, tripod and other, so to rent it here in Paris, it makes life much easier for us."
Alejandro Garlick, News Producer, BGTV World Press News: "We have been using LiveU for the last 10 years. It's so easy to use, and the size is very compact, and easy to carry. We can go live from anywhere, at any time, with success. We're covering the Games with LiveU for all the TV companies, the units are strong, and resilient over hard days and hard nights. We can 100% trust it; we know it will work and the TVs receiving the signals know that we will be on time, and the signals will be good."
Jean-Jacques Feron, freelance camera operator working for major European broadcasters: "I've been using LiveU for many years and it is like a miracle, so easy to use! Paris is full of people, and you can go with a small device, send the pictures and reports right away to your base, and the networks you're working for."
Philippe Marion, TV camera operator, major news agencies: "LiveU has changed a lot of the work we've done over the last years. For the Games, we use LiveU for stand-up positions and around the streets of Paris. It's very easy to use, even if we're in a rush, starting very quickly. We just have to push one button and we are connected, and we can send the video directly to the headquarters."
LiveU’s on-site operation included a dedicated team of over 10 multilingual engineers and event managers stationed across three dedicated locations in Paris, including within the IBC and a central Paris location along the Seine. This enhanced service ensured that customers could rely on quick responses and hands-on support, complemented by LiveU's remote round-the-clock support team.
