Manchester poised to exploit BBC move north

The Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) and North West Vision (NWV) have welcomed yesterday’s announcement by the BBC that it is to move significant production and commissioning out of London and into the regions.
Manchester and the Northwest are ideally placed to exploit the opportunities that this opens up for independent production and postproduction companies.
In anticipation of the BBC’s plans, the NWDA last week confirmed the first tranche of monies for North West Vision’s (NWV) Regional Attraction Fund. The Regional Attraction Fund is a substantial investment fund for high growth television companies based in the Northwest and independent television companies seeking to move production to the region.
The Regional Attraction Fund will help cement the Northwest’s position as the main production centre for television outside London. Television production is a high value industry and the NWDA has cited it as one of its targets for growth.
