MCEWEN TO BE KEYNOTE SPEAKER AT IBC

THIS YEAR'S IBC Keynote speaker will be Michael McEwen. As well as holding the posts of Secretary General of the North America Broadcasters Association (NABA) and President of the World Digital Audio Broadcast Forum, he is President of Canadian Digital Television a not for profit company, supported by the television industry to guide the transition from analogue to digital TV in Canada.
Also a consultant advising on media, strategy, policy and broadcast digital technologies, McEwen has over 30 years of radio and television experience, 27 of which were spent with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
He said: "I am still working on the first draft at the moment. Life for a Canadian broadcaster in the context of the broadcasting realities of North America is a lesson in survival. Along with the challenges, risks and opportunities we all face in making the digital transition in both television and radio I will deal with the myths and realities of a business that informs, entertains and enlightens but also exaggerates."
Born in Winnipeg in 1945 and raised in Calgary, McEwen attended the University of Calgary, where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science. Following two years of graduate study in Canadian politics, he spent two years as an announcer in private broadcasting before joining the CBC as a radio current affairs producer in 1970.
The IBC Keynote address will take place in the RAI Forum on Saturday 15 September at 10:00am. Entry is free to everyone wearing an IBC badge. If you can't make it to the event you can view it live or download it later from this web site. (CD)
