MultiDyne Moves Deeper Into The Technology Infrastructure At IBC
MultiDyne Video & Fiber Optic Systems comes to IBC2023 with strong business momentum in the global broadcast and production community that includes the recent opening of its first EMEA office. At IBC, MultiDyne will highlight new product innovations and strategic acquisitions that take the company deeper into the technology infrastructure, allowing customers worldwide to embrace new opportunities in live production, media transport and content delivery.
MultiDyne, which has also relocated its headquarters to a larger facility outside New York City, will show two recently introduced products at IBC for the first time that represent the company's future direction, along with a new twist to its advanced power extension products introduced last year at IBC.
"MultiDyne continues to invest substantial resources in the development of fiber-topic transport solutions that carry our leadership position forward into the next generation," said Frank Jachetta, CEO, MultiDyne. "What excites us most about IBC this year is that our partners and end customers from around the world can see how our strategic acquisition of Niagara Video last year adds compression, streaming and other toolsets to our product line. These extend our reach into the IP space, and enable new opportunities in remote production and direct-to-consumer delivery for content creators."
Bulk Fiber Transport
The MultiDyne brand is synonymous with fiber-optic transport, and its new HoneyBadger solution, receiving its European debut at IBC, breaks the paradigm of what's possible in a single bulk fiber transport platform.
HoneyBadger is built for a new generation of content producers faced with a broader array of formats, signals and connectors while seeking to bridge the gap between fiber and IP. It scales to serve the expanse of any production workflow or requirement so that everything the content producer needs for multi-camera or multi-announcer productions converges within its design.
With support for eight camera feeds and SDI return channels, the design also includes two independent 1Gb local-area network (LAN) extensions, enabling IP connectivity over single-mode fiber strands. Customers can also extend four partyline intercom channels (wet or dry), eight bi-directional line level analog audio outputs and eight mic-pre inputs with phantom power over two cost-efficient single-mode fibers.
Format-Flexible Streaming
MultiDyne's NIA9205 family is the first product series resulting from MultiDyne's acquisition of Niagara Video last year, combining the technical strengths of both companies. The compact and cost-effective encoders and decoders, which also receive their European debut at IBC, are designed for real-time streaming, broadcast transport and related applications.
MultiDyne has adapted Niagara's advanced video transport codecs and broadcast and networking standards with state-of-the art error correction to take advantage of the inherent flexibility of IP and the internet. HEVC and AVC 4:2:0 10-bit encoding, coupled with SRT, Zixi, & RIST video transport and error correction, help to maintain robust, broadcast-quality transport with interoperability over almost any IP network, as well as wireless internet. OTT protocols such as RTMP and HLS bolster the product in other networked workflows and applications.
Jesse Foster, MultiDyne's Vice President of Development, shares that customers benefit through an ability to take their signals to destinations across just about any IP network with the quality they expect from MultiDyne. "Mission-critical video and audio signal transport over the Internet using SRT, Zixi and RIST opens an array of new opportunities in remote production and IP content delivery," he said. "The ability to use MultiDyne for signal formatting and extension from the glass of the fiber-optic camera adapter to the glass screen of a streaming device represents a major step forward in technical innovation for MultiDyne that we believe will interest content producers worldwide."
Advanced Power Extension
Introduced at IBC2022, MultiDyne's APE Advanced Power Extension Line broadens the possibilities of signal transport and power extension for 12 and 24-volt fiber camera systems. MultiDyne developed the APE family, featuring the HUT-APE and SilverBack-APE, to meet the needs of DC-powered cameras from leading vendors, including automatic camera recognition. The HUT-APE frees SMPTE camera chains from the limitations of hybrid copper and fiber cabling by enabling cameras to be separated from their CCUs, while the SilverBack-APE extends capabilities to SilverBack fiber camera adapters.
MultiDyne will demonstrate robust connectivity between its proven VB Series and APE advanced power extension products at IBC for the first time in Europe, in parallel with diverse voltage outputs for camera powering over long distances. The seamless connectivity between APE and VB Series products is an extension of MultiDyne's "granular building block" strategy across product lines. In this case, the connectivity unlocks exciting new possibilities as to how content producers manage fiber camera systems and signal transport when using MultiDyne's SMPTE-HUT universal camera transceivers, or Emmy award-winning SilverBack fiber camera system adapters.
