Newcastle University Teams Up With Pixellot

Newcastle University has partnered with Pixellot to capture and stream games from their newly renovated sports facility.

The AI-automated systems will initially capture men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball, futsal and netball games, none of which had ever been broadcast before.

Established in 1834, Newcastle University is ranked in the BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) top 10 sports rankings. The University's men's and women's basketball and volleyball teams, and women's netball team play competitively in both BUCS leagues and other national and regional leagues. In addition to streaming games from the Newcastle sports halls, allowing family and fans to watch their favorite athletes in action, the systems will also enhance coaching and analysis for all teams to help sports coaches improve the players' performance.

"We are thrilled to be the first university in the UK to install AI cameras in our sporting facility," said Newcastle University's Sport Partnerships and Development Manager, Liam Isaac. "This will enable us to enhance the coaching and analysis of our players' performances and provide our students with an excellent platform for reviewing and sharing their sporting achievements. The installation of these AI camera’s highlights our commitment to our sports programs and provides them with state-of-the-art facilities and technology."

Pixellot's AI-Automated technology solutions streamline production workflow by fully automating live sports capture, production, distribution, and data extraction. The camera systems are part of a package of overall student experience and facility improvements for Newcastle University. In addition to the fixed cameras, Newcastle University is also incorporating Pixellot’s mobile streaming solution, Pixellot Air, for its outdoor sites to cover rugby union, football, hockey, and lacrosse.

"We are excited to partner with Newcastle University, one of the leading Sports Universities in the UK to bring our AI-powered cameras to their new multi-sport facility," said Neil Mosley, Pixellot’s Director of Sales, UK & Ireland. "Our automated technology solutions will provide coaches with enhanced capabilities to analyze and improve performance, and we are proud to be part of their commitment to excellence in sports."
