Sony unveils networked production solutions and more

Sony UK has unveiled a host of new products designed to make it easier to create and manage digital content at the Broadcast Production Show 2004.
Crucial to all the new products is an understanding that the production community needs integrated tools to produce higher quality pictures while delivering workflow efficiencies at lower cost.
The non-linear XDCAM Professional Disc System is a major focus, including the new cameras and compact decks that are now shipping to customers across the UK and Europe. The new XPRI version 7.0 software is also being demonstrated for the first time.
In addition, HDCAM High Definition solutions are featured, demonstrating the best in ‘HD 4 TV’ with HDCAM and the new HDCAM-SR VTRs recording RGB 4:4:4 signals. The latest DVCAM production systems, delivering new levels of image quality and reliability are also an important product area, along with a range of new cameras, monitors and players for Standard Definition production.
“Sony has unveiled a number of key technologies at the Broadcast Production Show this year that set out our vision to transform the production workflow. The new non-linear media XDCAM Professional Disc is the most tangible aspect of this, offering a new product range and new ways of working," said Niels Thomas, General Manager, Media Group, Sony UK. “Extending this vision, Version 7 of the XPRI Non Linear Editor increases the workflow possibilities for rendering complex 3D effects while offering complete integration with XDCAM content as well as native HD editing with HDCAM.”
Thomas added: “High definition production is another crucial strand of our offering at the Broadcast Production Show. HDCAM is already widely used as the high definition acquisition and mastering format for top end television production and now Sony is extending the possibilities for RGB 4:4:4 postproduction with new HDCAM-SR VTRs.
“Sony innovation doesn’t end there. Also at the show are our latest DVCAM production systems, including the DSR-PD170P hand-held camcorder and the DSR-570WSP widescreen camcorder. Other products on display include the BRC-300P compact robotic camera, offering unprecedented control for remote shooting applications. Also introduced is the new cost effective 14-bit BVP-E30 portable camera for standard definition production, which replaces both the popular BVP-950 and BVP-E10 cameras.
"Finally, Sony is showing new professional quality LCD monitors and a new generation of J Series compact players.”
