Densitron Announces 'Major Evolution' Of Intelligent Display System Platform
Densitron has announced a major evolution of the software powering its acclaimed Intelligent Display System (IDS) platform.
Acknowledging the huge continuing shift across broadcast and media towards hybrid and remote working, the new IDS Cloud software engine – which will be showcased on Stand 8.C90 at IBC 2022 (Amsterdam RAI, September 9-12) – allows the same studio environment to be controlled and managed instantly and seamlessly, to or from anywhere.
IDS Cloud heralds multiple new capabilities for mission-critical broadcast customers, its most important single benefit is its tremendous flexibility of deployment that encompasses public and private cloud operation, as well as existing on-premise functionality.
Previously, the use of IDS had been restricted to on-premise installations, with inter-premise or multi-premise applications only made possible via VPN tunnels. But with the new IDS Cloud, the core IDS server can be deployed and managed from anywhere securely, including on private cloud environments or public clouds, such as AWS (Amazon Web Services). As well as meaning that any operational or system management tasks can be conducted from any location, it is also possible to achieve a hybrid operation that fuses traditional on-premise deployments with the cloud.
The result is a new level of flexibility for IDS that makes it even easier to build your own workflows and manage your system effectively. Web-based management allows for simple browser-made operation, so there is no need to install software on each machine. Users can access the platform from any device, as well as Densitron’s custom-built HMI touchscreens, and it is now possible for system cores to be fully supported and upgraded remotely.
But as much as IDS constitutes a big step forward in technology terms, it also marks an important commercial change, too. Without the requirement for a traditional server, IDS can now be utilised in more locations, making even the smallest deployments cost-effective. In addition, whilst Densitron will continue to provide the option of a traditional licence fee, customers will now have the opportunity to access a monthly ‘pay as you go’ subscription – allowing deployments to be scaled accordingly in response to changing needs.
Densitron has always recognised the versatility and scalability of the cloud, but it’s only more recently that it has felt the security and reliability of an on-premise system can be equalled – or preferably exceeded – by a cloud-based service. Now, with IDS Cloud, the company is ready to offer its broadcast and media customers a control & display experience that is as seamless and effective in whatever environment it is deployed.
Reuben Such, Global Business Director at Densitron IDS, commented: "The introduction of the IDS Cloud software engine represents a transformational moment for Densitron. IDS customers are used to, and rightly expect, an unparalleled user experience, and we did not want to introduce a cloud-based service until we could be sure that it would be not only as good as our on-premise version, but even better! So we have taken our time and completely re-engineered the core of IDS to make it ideal for this exciting new era of hybrid, remote and decentralised broadcasting.
"More than ever, media companies require scalability and flexibility, which means that technology must always be an enabler and never a barrier to efficient operations. With IDS Cloud, our customers can be assured that they have a platform which is capable of supporting the full range of current and emerging workflows."
