Cinematographer Danny Cohen Joins FilmLight Colour Awards Jury
Oscar and BAFTA-nominated cinematographer Danny Cohen has been unveiled as the first member of the jury for the FilmLight Colour Awards.
Boasting a filmography working with directors like Stephen Frears, Richard Curtis, Tom Hooper, Shane Meadows, Dominic Savage, Sebastian Lelio and Lenny Abrahamson, Cohen's credits include 'Les Misérables', 'Disobedience', 'Room', 'London Road' and 'This is England'.
"How a cinematographer and a colourist work together on a film is key," he said. "There needs to be a sympathetic understanding of the project, as so much hangs on the grading. For a colourist to be able to interpret what a DOP wants and then execute the look is vital."
The FilmLight Colour Awards celebrate the art of colour across the world and the programme aims to reflect the cultural, visual and technical values of the international colour grading community of today. It aspires to encourage the growth of the colourist's prestige at all levels – from junior colourists to industry veterans – and to recognise the value they bring to the film industry.
The Colour Awards have been organised in association with professional bodies and are open to colourists using any grading technology, with the winners announced at EnergaCAMERIMAGE 2021 in Poland.
