dB Broadcast wins Indian parliament contract

UK broadcast equipment company dB Broadcast has won a prestigious contract for the design, engineering, testing and commissioning of the entire television and video recording facilities in the new, hand-crafted, marble Library Building Complex of the Indian parliament.
India is the largest democracy in the world and the main auditorium has 1,000 seats, while the main committee room has 190 and the audio-visual hall 128.
Robotically controlled camera systems will be installed in the main auditorium, the main committee room and various other committee rooms of the complex. The systems will be used for broadcast-quality live television coverage and the recording of proceedings and other related activities.
Work on the million pound project has begun and is expected to be completed in the second quarter of the year.
In the main auditorium, full television coverage is provided to the audience by eight robotic cameras. Each camera is on a robotic pan and tilt head and all controls (pan, tilt, zoom and focus) will be from control panels in the nearby production room. No cameramen will be required in the auditorium. The 190-seat main committee room has a fixed system, consisting of four robotic cameras, similar to those in the auditorium.
A four-camera mobile unit will be used in four other installations in the complex: the 128-seat audio-visual hall, the 64-seat PDR committee room and two smaller committee rooms.
Tom Swan, dB's director of sales and marketing, said: "We won this contract because of our recent experience of providing similar systems for the UK Parliament and in particular the committee rooms of the new Portcullis House. Although we have completed many overseas projects, this is our first in India. We expect it to be the first of many."
