PMC Partners With Dolby And Universal Music

News Image
A Dolby Atmos demo facility will form the centerpiece of PMC's booth at NAMM 2019, giving artists, producers and recording engineers an opportunity to experience Dolby Atmos music through a world-class monitoring system.

In conjunction with Dolby, PMC will play music from albums that have been mixed and re-mixed at Universal Music's Capitol Studios in the new Dolby Atmos format.

PMC's award-winning large, active three-way MB3-XBD-A monitors will form the left, right and center channels of the 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos system, with the rest of the system comprising four PMC twotwoSub2 monitors and a total of 16 Wafer 1 compact slimline monitors for the surround, rear and height channels.

The set-up is like the system PMC installed in its demo room at AES New York last October, which was used to showcase the Dolby Atmos Immersive Sound format as part of PMC's popular Masters of Audio seminars.

The music will be played back via a Mac and Dolby Rendering and Mastering software, in combination with Pro Tools and a Focusrite REDNET set up.

Maurice Patist, President of PMC USA, said: "We are really thrilled to be partnering again with Dolby and Universal Music on this project, which is designed to showcase the benefits of mixing in Dolby Atmos to the music recording fraternity.

"The music we will be demoing has been mixed or re-mixed in Capitol Studios C, which was recently upgraded to a Dolby Atmos certified facility and features a full PMC monitoring system incorporating IB2S-XBD-A, IB2S-A-C, twotwosub2 and Wafer 1 monitors."

During NAMM 2019, Dolby Atmos demos will be conducted by Steve Genewick, senior engineer at Capitol Studios, and internationally acclaimed producer Greg Penny who has worked with artists such as Elton John and k. d. lang. Dolby's Ceri Thomas and Tony Cariddi will also be on hand to answer specific technical questions, as will various members of PMC USA's technical team.

"Our relationship with Dolby and Universal Music is now so well established that PMC is seen as the benchmark when it comes to monitoring Atmos music and post production projects," Patist adds. "Alongside Capitol Studios C, we have also built a Dolby Atmos room for Universal Music in Nashville and we'll be collaborating on a second room at Capitol Studios later this year."

During NAMM 2019, PMC will also showcase other products from its extensive range of professional monitors, including its ever popular twotwo series and the result6 compact nearfield reference monitor that was launched in 2017 to huge critical acclaim.

Patist continued: "We have monitoring products that are suited to every application – from recording and mixing to mastering, post production and broadcast.

"All PMC pro reference monitors are renowned for their high resolution, detail and accuracy and we are very proud to feature in the studios and post production facilities of so many top artists, producers, film composers and mix engineers."
