Octopus Reports Highly Successful IBC 2018

Octopus Newsroom reported a well attended and highly successful 2018 International Broadcast Convention.

Held at the RAI exhibition centre in Amsterdam from September 14 through 18, the show attracted a total of 55,884 attendees, just short of its 2017 record attendance of 57,669.

"Television production techniques are evolving rapidly to match the increasing popularity of viewing TV content on mobile devices such as smart phones and internet-connected tablets," commented Octopus Newsroom Head of Marketing Adam Kennedy. "Viewers on the go like the freedom to browse through and select news story files which catch their personal interest rather than watch longer-duration linear programmes designed for large-screen home viewing. The shorter attention spans of mobile-device audiences are driven in part by considerations such as finite battery power and the distractions of viewing while traveling.

"Our latest generation Octopus Newsroom Computer System gives broadcasters all the tools they need to support both linear and file-based on-demand viewing. A software-based solution, Octopus is designed for use across all types and levels of operation including traditional and on-demand news programming, live event reporting, sport and eSport. Newsroom staff gain the freedom to work from standard desktops or mobile computers.

"For journalists capturing news on location, Octopus also elevates each reporter's smartphone into a portable production device which can be used for video shooting and one-to-one TV or radio interviews. Once captured, each report can be sent wirelessly back to base for immediate finessing and playout. The whole system is fast, economic and versatile. Octopus can be configured to handle any size of operation from a single-operator fully-automated news channel up to a round-the-clock multichannel broadcast network offering a mix of automated and live content with red-button opt-outs.

"In short, we demonstrated at IBC our ability to deliver all the facilities newscasters and sportscasters need for any style of production and any scale of business. Our user interface is clean, logical and eye-friendly, making it easy to learn and drive. Equally important, Octopus allows straightforward control of MOS-compatible production devices such as storage archives, graphics solutions, presentation servers and prompters."
