Henry Cavill To Star In Netflix's 'The Witcher' Adaptation
Henry Cavill is to star in Netflix's highly anticipated series 'The Witcher', based on Andrzej Sapkowski's best-selling fantasy novels of the same name.
Mr Cavill, known for his recent roles in 'Mission Impossible: Fallout' and 'Justice League', will play the lead role of Geralt of Rivia.
The eight part series follows Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, as he struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.
The novels were previously adapted into a series of games, with 2015's 'The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt' lauded by many as one of the greatest games of all time.
Lauren Schmidt Hissrich ('Marvel's Daredevil', 'Marvel's The Defenders', 'Umbrella Academy') is the showrunner.
The episodes will be directed by Alik Sakharov ('House of Cards', 'Game of Thrones'), Alex Garcia Lopez ('Marvel's Luke Cage') and Charlotte Brändström ('Outlander', 'Counterpart', 'Disparue').
A release date for the series has yet to be confirmed.
