‘The Office’ scoops two Golden Globes

The hit BBC comedy ‘The Office’ has beaten off stiff competition to win the Golden Globe for Best Musical or Comedy Series, while its co-creator and star Ricky Gervais has won the Golden Globe for Best Actor, Musical or Comedy Series.
The show, aired in the US on BBC America, has received huge critical acclaim: "Wickedly funny," New York Times; "One of the best comedic creations ever," San Francisco Chronicle; "The best television to hit American screens in years," Chicago Tribune; And "So perfectly made and so delicately acted," Entertainment Weekly.
In the category of Best Musical or Comedy Series, The Office was nominated alongside ‘Sex and the City’ (HBO), ‘Will and Grace’ (NBC), ‘Arrested Development’ (Fox), and ‘Monk’ (USA).
"Congratulations to Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, and the entire production. This is another sign of the great strength of BBC Comedy," said Paul Lee, CEO BBC America. "The Office has really broken through in the US."
The win is the first Golden Globe for a British comedy series.
