New Family Of RGB LED Lights Offers More Than 360 Colours

News Image
NanGuang has introduced its new family of RGB LED lights that now have the ability to mix output from the on-board red, green and blue LEDs to create more than 360 colours.

Photographers are able to create a variety of background colours by directing the RGB light onto a plain white wall or canvas. This allows them to add highlights, set the mood, and create movement effects combined with a long exposure.

Filmmakers can select from two dynamic lighting modes. Colour Cycling Mode allows the light to circulate through the colour spectrum at the speed of your choice, while Flash Mode is ideal for simulating tricky lighting scenarios, such as dance floors, the reflected flickering from a TV screen or an open fire, the flashing lights from emergency vehicles, lightning storms and more. These are all special effects that would be difficult to create in a conventional way, but which these new RGB LED lights make simple to achieve.

All members of the family are also powerful 2-in-1 devices, doubling up as conventional professional-quality studio lights with a CRI of 95, stepless colour temperature adjustment 5600-3200K, 0-100% adjustment 5600-3200K, 0-100% brightness control and 2.4 GHz remote control or Wi-Fi operation. Ideal for use in the studio or on location, these lights can be powered by Sony NP-F type batteries, by the power adapter included with the two larger models, or by a NanGuang power adapter.

Each of the new RGB lights has its own USP. The NanGuang RGB88 has a distinctive wand/sword shape, enabling it to be hand held and positioned exactly where it might be required, whether this is throwing light into a tricky corner, casting a particular colour on a background or filling in shadows on a face. The RGB88 is made to travel, thanks to its sturdy metal housing and robust carrying case, and comes with light head, tripod adapter, mains adapter, hand strap and instruction manual.

Meanwhile the NanGuang RGB173 is the most powerful of the trio, being a 348x240mm panel that can deliver an impressive 27 Watts of output. Capable of being tripod mounted for use in the studio, the RGB173 is compact and light enough at 1488g to be carried in a kit bag for location work, being powered either by its included mains adapter or by two optional Sony NP-F batteries.

The final member of the three-light line up is the NanGuang RGB66 which is a compact model that weighs 428g and measures just 178x132mm, allowing it to be mounted on-camera if required. Despite its diminutive size the RGB66 is still capable of outputting 11 Watts, making it perfect for filling in shadows on a face, fast reportage work or throwing a chosen colour into a scene. It's powered by a mains adapter or an optional Sony NP-F battery.

"LED lighting technology continues to evolve rapidly," commented Paul Kench, Kenro's managing director, "and NanGuang is right at the forefront, introducing innovative new products that give photographers and filmmakers alike the opportunity to use their imagination to create bespoke effects for their productions. These new RGB lights open the door to a whole host of creative opportunities while also offering conventional output, making them the ideal 2-in-1 products for all kinds of lighting scenarios."
