Ross Video Is Smart Production
Ross Video is committed to smart production, helping our customers deliver expert broadcasts efficiently and effectively, writes Jennifer Markey, Vice President of Marketing.
Here's a quick retrospective of some key Ross product announcements and initiatives over the past year. In recognition that content creators are always looking for new ways to tell better stories that engage and captivate audiences, Ross announced Frontier at IBC2016. Frontier is based on Epic's industry-leading Unreal gaming engine that delivers photorealistic scenery, which Ross has optimized to work in virtual studio environments. Frontier includes advanced graphic features like collision, particles, dynamic texture, reflections and real-time shadows, so content is only limited by the imagination. Frontier also incorporates Ross' UX application to provide an operator-friendly front end, so users are not required to learn new a platform.
At NAB2017, Ross launched the Graphite All-In-One Production System that combines big switcher performance with 3D graphics, instant access clip servers, and pristine audio clarity. Graphite integrates proven Ross products such as Carbonite, XPression Graphite and XPression Clips, along with the Rave Audio Engine for high quality audio. Ross' DashBoard control permits the system to be operated effortlessly with a single operator through Custom Panels or separate operators with network-connected workstations.
One of the largest recurring topics of the year continues to be IP and the use of data center technologies for broadcast.
Ross is committed to helping broadcasters navigate this transition and is an active participant in the standards bodies that are laying the foundation for IP adoption including SMPTE, AIMS, AMWA, and VSF as well as supporting NewTek's NDI. At IBC2016, Ross Video launched RAPTOR-EDGE, an openGear card that provides a bidirectional IP gateway, now with 6 I/O's that are COTS-friendly and platform agnostic – IP, SDI, 12G, or some combination thereof. Raptor lets broadcasters deploy IP in the core today and future proof their endpoints for tomorrow.
Another significant appeal of IP is the ability to use COTS technology from vendors like Cisco and Arista, and not be bound to a proprietary vendor solution for IP video. With COTS technology, broadcasters are able to share their hardware infrastructure and investment across applications including video routing, live traffic, audio, file transfer, control networks, and business system networks. Ross' Ultricore family delivers IP routing switching control to realize this shared COTS value proposition.
Another significant challenge in making the transition to a COTS-based IP solution is that COTS technology was not designed for the operational requirements of broadcast. This is where Virtualization or Software-Defined-Production comes in: to ensure system reliability, orchestration, and control. As demonstrated at NAB2017 and again at upcoming IBC2017, Ross continues to invest heavily in Virtualized, or Software-Defined, Production along with IP-connected products including: Inception Cloud, XPression support for NewTek's NDI protocol, Carbonite support for SMPTE ST 2110, and Tessera.
From changing the AR/VR game with the integration of best-in-class game rendering technology; to delivering an all-in-one production solution that really is a studio-in-a-box without compromise; to future proofing broadcasters' IP investments and helping them leverage COTS data center technology; Ross is the leader in smart production.
