Van Diemen Unveil New Products

There are numerous new products from Van Diemen Films following a productive period by way of lens design developments by the design team for both for spherical and aspherical lenses.

The latest Leica is a 180mm Macro F2.8 which reaches a macro ratio of 1:4. It complements the current range of Leica Macro's from Van Diemen: 60mm, 90mm, 100mm and 135mm.

Improvements to the range of Leica standard primes now give ample full frame 24 x 36 image coverage in a compact lightweight package using a reversed Wireform™ design. These lenses retain clear markings and have as standard dual focus scales with macro ratios marked on each lens.

In parallel to this activity there have been significant developments in the design of internal focus anamorphic lenses using Lomo anamorphic elements as the base lens, both square front and round front, but with the round fronts incorporating a sophisticated internal focus movement.

There are taking lens choices available for these conversions. Currently in production are original Lomo prime lenses and Cooke Speed Panchro prime lens options. In tests, these conversions stand up well to modern new anamorphic lenses in terms of lack of breathing movement when focusing.

The lenses have been tested by Stuart Graham, DoP, and his reaction was: "They're gorgeous. I would rent them over anything else old any day."

Other ongoing work includes conversion of an increasing range of Canon, Nikon and other 24 x 36 stills lenses.
