4K Goes The Distance
Argosy is supporting broadcasters in their 4K adoption journey by enabling them not only to leverage their existing infrastructure for UHD broadcast, but also to future proof their assets through the provision of pre-tested 4K and 8K product bundles based on real-life test transmission distances for various product combinations.
As the production of UHD/4K content gathers momentum, Argosy is offering advice on what types of cable installations best suit the transportation of 4K signals over various set-ups and various combinations of cables and components, for specific broadcast applications.
Argosy is also providing the industry's first definitive guide to 4K signal transport distances over various types of cable installations with specific applications in mind.
For example, while fibre tends to be the go-to cable type when upgrading to 4K, standard coax is often adequate to transport 4K signals over shorter cable runs, across rackrooms or studios for example. For critical 4K signals however, such as cables connecting mobile production vehicles at live sports events, high-end fibre would become the natural choice.
"There are plenty of options that broadcasters aren't aware of when it comes to balancing quality and spend for 4K cabling, whether it's over SDI, fibre or an IP based infrastructure," concluded Chris Smeeton, Managing Director, Argosy. "Nobody has conducted distance testing to the extent that we're doing right now."
The company's new 4K signal transport technology includes Argosy's 4K BNC connectors, MUDIGSA connectors and the MUDIGSA video patch solution (panel, U-link and patch cord).
