Irish documentary scoops major awards in London

The Irish Film Board (Bord Scannán na hÉireann) backed documentary 'Chavez-Inside The Coup', produced by Power Pictures, was named ‘Best International Documentary’ and ‘Best Newcomer’ at the Grierson Awards in London recently.
The Grierson Awards are amongst the most prestigious awards available to documentaries. The awards are bestowed on outstanding productions with social and cultural significance, which demonstrate integrity, creativity, originality and technical excellence. Others shortlisted on the night included Michael Moore’s ‘Bowling for Columbine.’
This accolade was the latest in a long list of awards received by ‘Chavez-Inside The Coup’. Previously it has won the Prix Italia for Best European Television Documentary and was also hailed as 'The world's best television programme' in winning the 'Best of Festival' grand prize at this year's Banff TV Festival and ‘Journalist of the Year’ award and ‘TV Documentary award’ at the 2003 ESB Media Awards.
“Irish films continue to garner recognition around the world”, said Irish Film Board CEO Mark Woods. “We are delighted for the filmmakers and congratulate them on their continued success”.
