ITV2 airs as UTV reach agreement with ITV Digital

ULSTER Television (UTV) have reached a financial settlement with ITV Digital shareholders Carlton and Granada over the use of the ITV brand for ITV Digital in Northern Ireland.
While the terms of the deal were not disclosed in detail, the result was that ITV2 commenced broadcasting in the Northern Ireland region immediately.
A spokesperson for UTV said: "We are delighted that an agreement has now been reached with Granada and Carlton which will see ITV Sport and ITV 2 distributed on UTV's digital frequency in Northern Ireland. ITV 2 will replace UTV2 here on Friday January 25 as part of this agreement."
Negotiations have been taking place for several months, with UTV declining an original offer from ITV Sport in August, claiming it to be “derisory”. (GB)
