Riedel Welcomes Successful IBC2016

News Image
At the IBC2016 show, Riedel's innovative real-time networks for video, audio, data, and communications were showcased in a variety of ways.

The company's products are deployed under the most demanding circumstances for broadcast, pro-audio, sports, theatre, and security applications worldwide, and show attendees got a firsthand look at Riedel gear in state-of-the-art mobile units. Riedel customers DB Video and AMP VISUAL TV both brought production trucks to the show that demonstrate how the company’s decentralized routing concept can be leveraged to create flexible workflows with significant cost and time savings.

AMP VISUAL TV's new Millenium Signature 12 (MS12) HD/4K-capable OB van features a robust MediorNet infrastructure including 68 MicroN high-density signal interfaces, eight MetroN core routers, three MediorNet Compact Pros, and two MediorNet Modular frames, which combine to replace the traditional router; provide video, audio, data, and intercom transport; and deliver routing and processing capabilities, with router elements situated in the ideal physical location for any given workflow or production.

DB Video has integrated Riedel's MediorNet real-time media network along with the company's MetroN core router and MicroN 80G media distribution network device, supporting versatile and efficient signal routing and distribution in its innovative Unit 10 OB van. DB Video integrated 18 MicroN units, two MetroN systems, and four MediorNet external stageboxes into Unit 10 and expanded the resulting decentralized matrix by interconnecting a router and Riedel Artist digital matrix intercom system. All MicroN units installed in the van feature a MADI connection, embedding and de-embedding options, video format conversion, and time code insertion.

In both mobile and fixed production environments, the interoperability of Riedel products and their ease of integration with other key systems are top priorities for the company. To this end, Riedel actively participates in interops testing and serves as a member of major standards organizations, including AMWA, SMPTE, IEEE, VSF and more. In fact, a special feature on the Riedel booth showcased the company's ongoing work with developing IP standards. Experts demonstrated for attendees how the IP-capable MediorNet MicroN is already SMPTE 2022-6 compliant.

Riedel also has been extending the breadth of its portfolio and interoperability of its products through new additions to its business. The company announced its recent acquisitions of DELEC Audio - und Videotechnik GmbH along and ASL Intercom BV at the IBC2016 show.

ASL Intercom has a strong portfolio in analog and digital partyline technology, and its ASL FLEXUS intercom system is notable for allowing multiple standards – Dante/AES67/AVB and RAVENNA – to coexist in a single system. Intercom applications continue to be an important part of Riedel's business, and ASL Intercom's complementary technologies will enable Riedel to address the communications requirements of an even broader array of users and applications.

By acquiring DELEC's assets, Riedel not only strengthened its range of advanced communications solutions and added to its Dante capabilities, but also gained a visionary team of engineers. While the addition of DELEC products to the Riedel portfolio promises to bring Riedel customers even greater versatility, the expansion of Riedel's engineering team promises to accelerate the company's development and delivery of innovative new products.

Among the innovative Riedel products featured at this year's IBC show was the RSP-2318 SmartPanel, an app-based control panel that serves as a powerful multifunctional user interface. The first app Riedel developed for the SmartPanel allowed it to function as an intercom keypanel for the Tango and Artist intercom platforms. Now the new MediorNet Control App provides direct communication between the SmartPanel and the MediorNet network, as well as control over signals within the network. With the two apps running in parallel, the SmartPanel serves as a robust and highly cost-effective A/V control system that facilitates intercom functionality and enables routing, control, and communications – all simultaneously in a single RU. Another Riedel software-based solution is the new virtual multi-viewer, which saw its preview at IBC.

Software-based solutions offer users tremendous benefits because they make it possible to upgrade or downgrade capabilities without the replacement of expensive hardware. As Riedel continues to develop apps for the SmartPanel, users of this groundbreaking interface will gain capabilities that help them to further optimize signal transport and production workflows.
