LiveShot Standing Out From The Crowd At NAB

News Image
The latest from LiveShot was on show at NAB 2016. Capable of delivering live, two-way, HD video and audio over a range of IP networks at latencies as low as less than 200mS.

Utilizing sophisticated CrossLock VPN technology, LiveShot can make use of even the most challenging 3G/4G, Wi-Fi, and satellite networks to maintain a secure and stable connection. Compact with a versatile interface, that can be camera-mounted or slung over your shoulder inside the LiveShot Pouch. The portable unit is light-weight at only 3 pounds, and designed for the most demanding environments.

Used by TV stations, networks, sports franchises, and government organizations for a broad range of applications, LiveShot is ideal for streaming low-latency, broadcast quality audio and video from anywhere Internet is available. Supplied with Gold Mount or V-Mount connections, LiveShot is designed to sandwich between a professional video camera and battery. Powered by the battery or by an external AC power supply, LiveShot weighs less than 1kg and consumes <8 watts of power. LiveShot accessories are also available, such as the LiveShot Hub for connecting additional USB network adapters and rain cover for protection against environmental damage.

Every LiveShot Portable or Rack unit is capable of bidirectional HD video using the HIGH profile H.264 format, reengineered for the highest standard in both low and high bandwidth scenarios. By default, the LiveShot will bond all network connections together for the video stream, but can also be configured to send the same data down every available connection for redundant transmission. The bidirectional stereo audio is handled separately from the video feed; audio is diverse across all network connections providing redundant audio transmission.

A Full-duplex Cue channel is available via 3.5mm TRRS and is also handled as a separate stream, typically using GSM for low delay, low bandwidth communications. Using the LiveShot Hub, you can install 4 USB network connections or extend that even further with an additional USB hub if necessary. LiveShot offers full control of your broadcast in real time; swap and disable your network devices on the fly, adjust your delay settings and monitor your stream via the LiveShot app using your mobile phone or tablet. A built-in WiFi access point allows you to connect directly to your LiveShot portable for full control, monitoring and the unit can act as an internet gateway for connected devices.

LiveShot is the perfect Electronic Newsgathering (ENG) tool, bringing bi-directional Video and Audio to the table and low delay never thought possible on a 3G/4G connection. Comrex were not hesitant to show off the latest updates with LiveShot at NAB this year and visitors to the show quickly caught on to the unique features available. Update 1.4.1 was live on the show floor, a significant upgrade which changes the way in which LiveShot connections are established and refinements to Crosslock's Adaptive Management Engine. With the introduction of LiveShot firmware 1.4.1, LiveShot is now able to intelligently quarantine underperforming modems. Because bonded cellular systems are designed to adjust streaming speeds to accommodate the slowest modem, a sudden loss of connectivity to a modem can increase latency and drag a broadcast down.

LiveShot can now detect when a modem is abnormally slow, and adjust streaming speeds to match the capacity of higher performing modems, without interrupting or affecting the broadcast.

Comrex have recently introduced the LiveShot Connect and ACCESS Connect; pro-grade, high performance cellular data modems. To ensure that users experience the highest degree of broadcast reliable data transmission, each device comes in a ruggedized, industrial case with a carrier-certified, high gain antenna (2.1 dBi) and sturdy, customized mounting hardware for either the LiveShot Portable IP Video codec or the ACCESS 2USB Portable IP Audio codec. LiveShot Connect includes custom mounting hardware that easily connects into the LiveShot Portable's 4-pin female XLR connector. LiveShot Connect will fit into LiveShot Rain cover sleeves for extra security and protection from the elements.

The team at Vortex offer remote support when purchasing any of their products and that includes expert advice, support and repairs for Comrex codecs. We also offer one full day of training when purchasing a LiveShot kit to help get the best out of your broadcasting as soon as it's in your hands.
