Pixit Media Completes Post-Production Project

News Image
Pixit Media has installed a bespoke storage system at Roundtable Films, an independent post-production house based.

The London-based facility is known for its work on award-winning documentaries and drama, brand films, indie features and live music content, and with the help of a PixStor software-defined storage system from Pixit Media, it has expanded its grading facilities.

Roundtable Films recently carried out a £500,000 expansion into new new premises in Macklin Street, which included the installation of two 4K Nucoda grading suites from Digital Vision. The facility also has two online suites, seven offline suites and audio facilities.

In order to allow fast simultaneous real time 4K playback for the grading suites, Roundtable Films installed two standalone PixStor servers into the new facility in February and March. The two systems connect together to provide 96TB worth of storage to support the high level demands of Roundtable Films with render speeds in excess of 4000MB per second.

The installation of the PixStor system enables Roundtable Films to get the most out of the speed and capacity of its Nucoda grading systems, but also ensures that the storage doesn't need to be defragmented as it is self-maintaining, saving time for the team, and allowing them to focus on being creative rather than managing the system.

Jack Jones, Colourist at Roundtable Films, said: "Our main aims were to find storage that is fast, able to cope with uncompressed, raw 4K formats, and would be future-proof. We looked at a lot of manufacturers, and with the help of Pixit's preferred partner, Escape Technologies, we quickly identified that Pixit Media was the only platform that could offer us a practical 4K demonstration onsite, and furthermore was able to integrate our existing hardware resources to facilitate our storage needs."

"Working with the Pixit Media team was really the only choice for us. They went above and beyond our demands – the consultation, planning, training and support has all been fantastic," added Ben Coulson, Managing Director of Roundtable Films.

Barry Evans, Technical Director, Pixit Media, commented: "As the first bespoke storage solution Roundtable Films has invested in, it was paramount that the speed requirements fitted with their demands of their system. The PixStor solution provides that efficient 4K workflow to support the new grading suites, using commodity hardware."
