'The Windsors' Cast Is Unveiled

News Image
Channel 4 has announced the cast for its new comedy soap opera, The Windsors.

The original 6 x 30' series is due to air in the spring, and will see Harry Enfield as HRH Prince Charles with Haydn Gwynne (Drop the Dead Donkey) as Camilla, The Duchess of Cornwall. Hugh Skinner (W1A) is Prince 'Wills' William, Duke of Cambridge, with Louise Ford (Crashing) his Queen consort-in-waiting, 'Kate', the Duchess of Cambridge.

Elsewhere, Morgana Robinson has been cast Kate's sister, Pippa Middleton, and Richard Goulding (Fresh Meat) stars as Prince Harry. Ellie White (House of Fools) and Celeste Dring (Josh) are Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie for the comedy, while Katy Wix (Miranda) and Tim Wallers (You, Me & The Apocalypse) have been named as Fergie and Prince Andrew. Matthew Cottle (Man Down) is Prince Edward.

The Windsors has been written by Bert Tyler-Moore and George Jeffrie, and takes a comical look at what the lives – and loves – of the family might be like, by going behind the headlines and gossip columns.

Phil Clarke, Head of Comedy, Channel 4, said: "In The Windsors, our much-loved Royal family is re-imagined through the lens of a soap opera, and although the stories are completely fictional, some are inspired by real events. As a result, writers Bert and George have outdone even the funniest, most ludicrous issue of Hello! magazine ever."

Robert Wulff-Cochrane, Executive producer for Noho Film and TV, added: "Infused by our gossip-fuelled sense of what we think we know about them, The Windsors is a joyous weekly peek behind the curtains of Britain's most famous family."

Commissioned by Head of Comedy Phil Clarke and Deputy Head of Comedy Nerys Evans, The Windsors will be directed by Adam Miller (Mongrels) and made by Noho Film and TV (Tennison). It is executive produced by Camilla Campbell and Robert Wulff-Cochrane, and produced by Izzy Mant (Harry & Paul).
