UAV: How Has The Industry Developed
Over the past 12 months, I have visited and exhibited at numerous shows, trade days and exhibitions across the UK, writes James Rawlings, Wide Horizons.
Some have been aimed solely at the UAV industry, others not so much. It was the shows which were not developed around the UAV industry which showed, in my opinion at least, the development of the UAV industry and where it looks to be heading. I was extremely pleased to see the development of the use of unmanned aerial vehicles in a far more diverse way than at the same shows just two years ago.
One of the biggest leaps for the industry which was noticeable while speaking with visitors and exhibitors at these shows was the recognition of the unmanned aerial vehicles in the built environment. Not just to take photos of architectural pleasing buildings, but the inclusion in more traditional building consultancy services and even better the property management sectors which branch off from this.
As a company, Wide Horizons reflects this idea with a hugely diverse client base which reside in industries which, 12 months ago either were not classed as a target market or just were unaccepting of the use and multiple benefits of UAV's in their industries.
This shift towards the industrial and commercial services sector can also be seen in the products now on offer from some of the leading UAV developers such as dji. Recently they have released their thermal camera which was developed in partnership with FLIR, this is set to be the first of many new additions to their new 'industrial' product range. The second big developer which has always targeted the commercial UAV sector is Ascending Technologies, as a company they have always lead the way in creating surveying platforms in the UAV industry and with this success has now caught the attention of Intel who are as a result acquiring the German drone developer.
With this continued development from both operators and developers to show the benefits of UAV's in more and more markets, I really do think that 2016 should bring with it a wealth of opportunities across industries not yet exposed, and the addition of platforms and products from developers will only encourage this!
