RT Software Adds To Range

RT Software is expanding its product range with the tOG-Vista, designed to deliver high quality HD output from static 4K cameras.

The system, which is to be showcased at IBC 2015, allows production companies to generate key shots during the game, and to zoom in to areas of interest as an analysis tool.

tOG-Vista uses two 4K cameras, in a single static mount, ideally on the centre line. The software runs on a single standard Dell workstation and stitches the two cameras together to create a single 7680 x 2160 canvas. From this, two HD outputs can be generated.

The HD outputs are joystick controlled, allowing the operator to follow the action and zoom in and out as required. As the raw video is high resolution, zooms into the picture can be tight without losing quality. In single operator mode, one joystick sets the tight angle on the action, with the second output a looser wide shot around the same area. With two operators and two joysticks, the outputs are fully independent.

Most users will choose to use tOG-Vista in association with a video server, capturing the two 4K outputs throughout the duration of the event. This means it can be used for replays which focus precisely on the incident being reviewed.

The software runs on standard broadcast specification workstation hardware, along with nVidia GPU and AJA video I/O cards. These also allow 16 channels of audio to be ingested alongside the two 4K video signals. Because the input to the system is over 4K SDI, the system is agnostic to cameras and lenses, allowing the broadcaster or production company to choose the most appropriate for the event and budget.

"This product originated from customer interest in raising quality but also lowering the production costs for tier 2 sports," said Mike Fredriksen, Commercial Director, RT Software. "They saw real benefits in 4k stitching, first from simplifying production, facilitating remote production and thus achieving those reduced costs, but add a replay capability and this becomes something of value to all sports – off camera incidents become a thing of the past. Following demonstrations at NAB earlier this year we have refined the software and the operational practicalities, and we are engaging with customers now for further field tests."

tOG-Vista is available in a range of configurations, including 2 x 4K, 2 x HD and single camera options, combined with flexible licencing making it affordable for both long and short term use. Its capabilities can be extended with the addition of other RT Software products such as virtual 'on pitch' advertising graphics and telestration analysis graphics.
