DPA Unveils Two New Products
DPA Microphones has introduced two new products for the broadcast market.
The first is the d:facto™ Interview Microphone, which is aimed at presenters and reporters who want voice clarity, linearity and low noise characteristics. This handheld microphone features DPA's new d:facto 2006V omnidirectional capsule, an adapted version of the company's 2006 capsule that has been adjusted to suit typical interview microphone levels.
"We have altered the capsule's sensitivity so that it is 12 dB less than its basis," says DPA product specialist Mikkel Nymand. "This, plus the fact that the capsule is omnidirectional, makes it more suited to broadcast interview situations where freedom of use is more important than pointing precision. We have also lowered handling noise by incorporating a rubber suspension mount, which is built into the d:facto head. Finally, the d:facto Interview has the lowest mic generated wind noise of any interview mics on the market, straight out of the box, with no additional foam or fur needed."
Launched three years ago, DPA's d:facto Vocal Microphone range is used by artists such as Steve Wonder, Sting, Ellie Goulding and Paloma Faith who love its ability to deliver a natural sound. The microphone has been used on numerous television singing competitions and talent shows where clarity of voice is paramount, and it is also popular with top FOH engineers who appreciate its superior gain before feedback and extreme SPL handling. The modular nature of d:facto means that the same microphone head can be employed for both wired and wireless use, allowing performers to choose the configuration that best suits their needs. They can also choose their preferred wireless system as DPA's state-of-the-art adapters allow d:facto to integrate seamlessly with brands such as Sony, Lectrosonics, Shure, Wisycom and Sennheiser.
When paired with the recently-launched DPA d:fine™ In-Ear Broadcast Headset Microphone, the DPA d:facto Interview Microphone can be used in the studio by a show host for guest interviews and audience commentary, while maintaining a connection to backstage producers or off-site colleagues via the d:fine's in-ear monitor and mic. The d:facto Interview is also ideal for solo use for on-the-street interviews in ENG applications.
The d:fine In-Ear Broadcast Headset Microphone is built on the same capsules and mechanical design as before. This model incorporates two cables – microphone and in-ear – that run parallel to provide a neat and clean look. Ear pads in two different sizes are also included and care has been taken to ensure that there is no audio leakage between the in-ear drivers and the microphone capsule, which can be either omnidirectional or directional. A steel spring construction at the ear hook offers quick mounting for any ear size, while the cable to the integrated in-ear plug(s) can be lengthened or shortened to suit the user. The headset mount size can be adjusted and, by choosing between left and right ear orientation, it is even possible to give the broadcast host a 'camera blind' side.
