Elstree Hosts Two Tribes Quiz Show

BBC Studios and Post Production recently provided full studio facilities for the second series of the BBC daytime quiz show, Two Tribes. Recorded in front of a studio audience, four shows were filmed each day, four days a week in Stage 8 at Elstree.

The 7,550 sq. ft. capacity of Stage 8 meant it was large and flexible enough to meet the demands of the turnaround required to fulfil Two Tribes' recording schedule. The production also took advantage of ancillary areas, including contestant holding rooms, dressing rooms and green rooms.

The camera set-up included six Sony 1500 cams, five pedestal cameras and a jib. The lighting design featured fast lighting resets as the contestant line-up changed, with trussing for some of the moving lights to steady each set quickly after each lighting change.

Presented by Richard Osman, the series sees contestants split into 'tribes' by setting a series of questions designed to uncover their common interests. Each 'tribe' is then whittled down over a series of quick-fire rounds, before a head-to-head showdown takes place.
