London Company Rents Solid State Memory Cards

A new company has been set up in London that focuses on the rental of Solid State Memory Cards.

Senior hire co-ordinator at Solidmate Ltd., Paul Parsons said: "It is such a small piece of the puzzle, but such a fundamental part, often overlooked when booking a camera kit. I set up solidmate as there was no one really concentrating on the rental of the memory cards and they were always a problem to get hold of without having to purchase them. I worked for visual impact for 15 years on the rental desk so I knew first hand there was a gap in the market.

"Day after day calls would come in from other rental houses, DOPs, production companies and organisations such as BBC, Sky and Granada looking to rent extra memory for their shoot. With the cost of buying a single card being between £300 – £800 depending on format, it's not often cost effective to buy for a 1, 2 or 3 day shoot when rental price can be between £15-£30 per day.

"Even longer term jobs can work out much more cost effective, with daily rates and amount of days charged decreasing the longer it continues. So with ever decreasing budgets and ever changing formats memory card rental is the way to go."
