Pact Scotland organise legal history event

A Pact Scotland organised event, titled 'Keeping Channel 4 Out of Jail', is to highlight the difficulty in navigating the legal minefield that comes with television production.
Channel 4 has a reputation for risk taking. In its 20-year history, Channel 4 has provoked more controversy than any other broadcaster, breaking new ground, and challenging the orthodoxies of British television. Shows like 'The Word', 'Queer as Folk', 'Brass Eye', and 'Autopsy Live' have tested the limits of taste and decency.
Late night sex zones and the scandal of 'fake' documentaries have provoked censure from TV regulators. Throughout the storms that have gathered around Channel 4, its legal team have worked overtime to keep producers and programme controllers 'out of jail'.
For the first time, two of Channel 4's leading lawyers, Jan Tomalin and Prash Naik, discuss life at the coalface of controversy. Using unexpurgated tapes of past programmes, and famous controversies, Channel 4's Stuart Cosgrove will interview the legal team about television-on the-edge.
Channel 4's Chief Executive Mark Thompson, will introduce the event, to run on Thursday September 4 2003 at Tiger Tiger, VIP Lounge, The Glasshouse, 20 Glassford Street, Glasgow.
