TV Production: Introductory Initiative To Launch At ITTP Conference

A new initiative to evaluate people entering the TV production industry is to be launched at the 2015 Conference of the Institute of Training in TV Production (ITTP) at Pinewood Studios in January.

The scheme will be unveiled at the conference and will be known as ‘ITTP Approved Skills’. The ITTP says the qualification "will soon be recognised throughout the TV industry as the 'Gold Standard' of skills." The scheme has already received the backing from BSkyB and BT Sport.

The evaluation of skills will be carried out by professional bodies working with the ITTP such as the Guild of Television Cameramen, (GTC), The Society of TV Lighting Directors, (STLD) and the The Institute of Association of Broadcast Manufacturers, (IAMB).

Next year's conference will begin with a key note speech by Darren Long, Director of Sky Production Services. Taking part in the second session 'What the industry wants' is Andy Beale, Head of Engineering, BT Sport,Tony Cahalane, Chair NEP- Cymru, Chris Miller, Camera Supervisor from 'Strictly Come Dancing', Barry Johnson, MD of CTV OBs and Steve Warner from the IAMB.

Following lunch there will be another session 'What can TV learn from film and theatre?' with Jan Harlan, Executive Producer of films such as 'Full Metal Jacket' and 'Eyes Wide Shut'. Nick Noran from the Association of Lighting Designers will speak on training in the world of theatre. Another session will feature past students who will look back on their time at university and discuss how well prepared they were for working in the TV industry.
The conference will again be chaired by Roz Morris, broadcaster and media trainer and Managing Director of TV News London.
