Sony Announces 4K World Cup Partners

Sony has revealed the partners it will be working with during this summer's World Cup competition, which the company plans to broadcast in 4K as a world-first.

Sony will be responsible for delivering more than 2,500 hours of live match footage over 32 days, with 64 matches across two time zones. All matches will be delivered in HD, while three will be broadcast in 4K.
The following companies will work with Sony to deliver the full HD workflow for all the matches:

• Sonovts (SI)
• Presteigne Charter
• Studio Berlin
• CTV Outside Broadcast
• Outside Broadcast
• AMP Visual TV
• Broadcast RF

As Host Broadcast Services' (HBS) delivery partner for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Sony will provide all HD venue facilities in each of the 12 venues across Brazil, including SI equipment and staff. This includes managing the provision of 12 separate production containers and 288 Sony full HD cameras.
Thee matches – including one of the Quarter Final rounds and the Final – will be captured in live 4K through the collaboration between Sony and HBS.
Brazilian OB and programming company Globosat (part of TV Globo Group) and UK-based outside broadcast company Telegenic have been selected to provide the production platform. Globosat will be responsible for the provision of on-the-ground technical facilities, while Telegenic will bring the technical experience gained at the Confederations Cup 4K trial last year to the project.
