Snell & Wilcox release IBC 2003 plans

At IBC 2003, the Snell & Wilcox emphasis will be on practical implementation of new technology in ingest, conversion, restoration, switching, infrastructure, control and management.
An important theme on the booth is metadata-friendliness. Visitors will see how metadata generation, handling and management are incorporated into Snell & Wilcox products right across the board. In the case of AAF and MXF file formats, the company have been closely involved with the development of these open standards and are working with a number of partners to bring the benefits of file transfer and metadata generation to the end-user.
Among the metadata-friendly applications demonstrated are ingest-for- playout and ingest-for-archiving. In the latter case Archangel Ph.C provides real-time restoration for the source material before ingest. Both are centred on the Snell & Wilcox Mastering and Re-purposing System, designed to turn content into valuable assets.
Designed for file-based content creation, storage, quality control and e-purposing, the system, whose benefits are detailed in a staged presentation, includes the company's 'Ingest Station' mastering encoder, 'Mosalina' quality control software and 'RepoDepot' file transcoder.
Other new developments, to be seen for the first time in Europe at IBC, include 'DEFTplus', an option to the company's benchmark Alchemist Platinum Ph.C standards converter. DEFTplus allows program producers, for the first time, to seamlessly convert standard definition material to 24p and integrate standard and high definition material within the same program - all in a single pass.
