4K HD Technology To Be Unveiled At Salford Conference
The world's first 4K user upgradable 4K digital film camera will receive its UK premiere at a University of Salford conference about the latest 4K Ultra HD TV technology.
Offering four times the resolution of current full HD TVs, the new 4K standards bring pin-sharp clarity to television viewing. Many broadcasters are already filming content in 4K and the first 4K TV channels are beginning to appear.
The conference at the University's MediaCityUK building on Monday 28 April is sponsored by the Institute of Telecommunications Professionals and MIDAS. It will feature the first UK demonstration of the Blackmagic URSA 4K camera which was launched at the NAB 2014 conference in Las Vegas earlier this month.
Other demonstrations will include the Canon C500 4K camera and 4K content from BT Sport.
The benefits, challenges and potential of the new technology will be debated by nine top speakers from industry. They include Andy Quested, BBC Head of Technology for BBC HD and UHDTV; Andy Sutton, EE Principal Network Architect and Visiting Professor at the University of Salford; and Steve Sharman, Chief Technical Officer at Mediasmiths.
Nigel Linge, Professor of Telecommunications at the University of Salford, said: "4K is the next major advance in television technology and it's already here! At our conference we'll be looking at the opportunities that 4K brings to programme makers and television companies, and debating some of the challenges of delivering these much higher resolution pictures to the viewer."
The conference is part of the University's activities with Huawei and EE Telecommunications. Other projects include the testing of the delivery of 4K Ultra HD video over both fixed broadband and mobile networks.
