VMI to hold HDCAM event at Sound Nightclub

VMI Broadcast will be holding a HDCAM event at Sound Nightclub on Leicester Square on the 26th June 2003.
The event will be free and will include speakers from all aspects of the industry: HD Production - Barry Bassett, VMI Managing Director; HD Post - Milan Krsljanin, Sony Business Europe; HD and the BBC - Andy Quested - BBC Production Modernisation; and various guest cinematographers.
The speakers will pass on their technical expertise and practical experience of using High definition.
Topics will include:
  • HD acquisition improves the quality of Standard Def programmes
  • How progressive scan mode 25P produces the illusive 'film look'
  • How HD compares to film
  • How HD improves international sales
  • How HD can save you money
  • HD lenses
  • HD in Post
VMI say that HD is here to stay and contrary to popular sentiment, it has relevance for the production of most TV programmes as well as film. The quality is as good as film so your programmes will look better (comparable with 35mm). HD production can also save you money; figures from the BBC's modernization research indicate that these savings can be approx 30% of film production costs. HD can also make you money. Producing HD masters enables even greater scope for international sales.
HD Production is much more flexible than film as the cameras are smaller and lighter. Unlike film, HD is suitable for fast moving pictures as well as drama. You will learn that shooting and editing HD is not complicated - it is not really any different form Digital Betacam; you just have one decision to make - whether you want your programme to look like film (25P) or TV (50i).
Speakers from the BBC, guest Cinematographers and Film Producers who have moved over to HD will discuss their experience of using HD and answer any concerns you may have.
In addition there will be the opportunity for hands-on use of the kit and a chance to network with colleagues. To register for the event visit www.vmi.co.uk.
