Picardy announces new college video for students

Picardy Media Group have produced a new video for potential students of the Royal National College for the Blind (RNC) in Hereford to enable them to learn more about the college.
The college, which is open to blind and partially-sighted people, has more visually-impaired students studying there than any other specialist residential college in the UK. However, it is keen to attract more students from overseas and across the UK and while potential students are encouraged to visit the college, the video will allow the college to come to them.
As many of the would-be students may not have lived away from home before, it was vital that the video provided the viewers with as full and reassuring picture of the RNC. Picardy, a leading UK communications company with a long-established pedigree in television and broadcast commercials production, had to approach the project sensitively and had to ensure that the video conveyed its message without having to rely too heavily on the visual content. They achieved this by employing reassuring voiceovers from existing students, adopting the existing RNC branding and using easily assimilated graphics and captions, making it accessible to the partially-sighted.
PMG’s Northwest Managing Director Simon Poyser explained: “Our take on the brief was to convey the message that RNC is not just a learning establishment, but is there to offer opportunities for individuals to develop their personal skills and confidence, so becoming a whole person. With the target audience in mind we felt there were great strengths to be drawn from the experiences of existing students. Their endorsements will appeal directly to potential students, their families and professionals looking after their needs, and give the video that ‘warm’ edge.”
Cathy Fletcher, RNC Marketing Manager was pleased with the finished product: "We are delighted with the way in which the video communicates the many aspects of RNC, the academic side, support side and leisure and social life of the college," she said. "It really lets potential students get a flavour of life at RNC."
The video will be distributed to mainstream schools with visual impairment provision, schools for the blind and partially sighted, Careers Advisors, Disability Employment Advisors, Associations for the Blind, potential students and their families throughout the UK.
