PHABRIX Set To Stun At IBC 2013
PHABRIX's larger than normal stand in Hall 8 E35 at IBC this year will feature new product launches, new additions to existing ranges and for the first time, the chance to ask about all things test and measurement via its new training zone.
The training zone will cover topics such as understanding eye and jitter, basic signal analysis, Dolby E, D and D plus, fault finding and a guest appearance to explain the ins and outs of closed caption 608/708 and OP47.
There has been much rumour surrounding PHABRIX's addition to its highly successful Sx range of hand held instruments launching at IBC. The flagship of the Sx range is the PHABRIX SxE, a combined generator, analyser and monitor with the unique capability of physical layer analysis with eye and jitter toolsets supporting SD-SDI, HD-SDI and 3G-SDI. The form factor of the Sx instruments, which includes the SxA and SxD, has been extremely popular, allowing the operator to easily attach cables for analysis without the need to hold the instrument in two hands. The light weight of the instrument allows an engineer to easily carry the unit behind racks and into OB vans. This versatility, plus the cool running 9W power consumption providing up to 1.5 hours of un-tethered operation, has made it the number one portable T&M device in the world today.
The new handheld – called the PHABRIX TAG, has been released to provide an entry level highly configurable instrument designed for price sensitive markets. Complete details of the new product are being kept under wraps until the show, but early reports suggest in addition to SDI it will support composite and optical.
'All things audio' seems to be a theme for PHABRIX this year. Dolby E, D and D plus are now each supported across the range, with PHABRIX offering the only generation and analysis solution in a video/audio portable device.
For the first time, the metadata from a generated signal can be adjusted to allow an engineer to fully diagnose the Dolby signal for fault finding by checking how the metadata changes.
The undoubted star of the show will be the rack mount PHABRIX Rx. The dream was to offer a modular solution to the industry supporting a range of new technologies, and at IBC 2013 the dream is set to be realised. Investing in new equipment is always a dilemma for the industry, particularly with technologies changing so fast. Not a problem with the Rx chassis, which has been designed to accept a range of modules for technologies as they materialise, starting with SDI; now optical and soon ASI/IP. No one got fired for buying IBM and soon investing in PHABRIX will be the smart choice when others are only supporting baseband.
The Rx range, consisting of the dual screen Rx2000, the 1U Rx1000 and 'demi' Rx500 rasterisers, has been enhanced with simultaneous loudness support for four channels. One of the key audio announcements at the show is the addition of a new Dolby module for the Rx which will allow full audio decode of 5.1 and 7.1.
To complement the audio support on the Rx, a new input/output 4AES module will be available offering 8 audio channels. In addition to the full Dolby decode will be a new Lissajous display, BBC graticules on meters, phase meters and surround sound display.
PHABRIX has also increased the video feature set on the Rx. Visitors to the stand will see the new waveform displays which will set a new standard for equipment at this price point. The Rx now supports a new closed caption display with 608 and 708 and OP47.
Uniquely, the Rx can display 608 and 708 side-by-side, allowing the operator to easily check CC continuity on all channels.
The intuitive GUI makes assigning CC display to a channel a breeze.
With the Rx's ability to show 16 instruments simultaneously per channel, PHABRIX has announced a new dual analyser module, allowing the monitoring of up to eight separate channels in one chassis. That's a lot of instrumentation and only when displayed like a multi viewer of instruments at 1920 x 1080 via HDMI or SDI output do you really see the power of the PHABRIX technology. With the options assigned to the chassis this makes the Rx the most cost effective rasteriser available today. Buy the option once and all your modules take on the additional features at no extra cost.
