Technicolor Unveils Role In New Television Series

Technicolor has revealed its role in upcoming British TV mini-series The Politician’s Husband through supplying full on-set dailies services in support of the production.
Technicolor Colourist Paul Ensby graded the episodes, while the on-set VFX supervision was carried out by Technicolor Head of Editing, Dominic Thomson.
The firm provided front end services, building and maintaining a digital dailies transfer station and supplying remote digital dailies services to support it in the field. Technicolor also provided full training on-site and 24/7 technical support throughout the shoot.
Equipment used included full SxS checksum software for the ProRes 4444 Master rushes and LTO-5 back-up solutions for fast archive of the Master rushes, as well as transcoding capabilities for creation of material for Avid editorial and a full RAID copied back-up service at Lexington Street, Soho, in London. Full Avid license support was provided with Technicolor’s own Avid licenses for a complete custom editorial solution.
On grading the series, Senior Colourist Paul Ensby worked closely with Director Simon Cellan-Jones and DP Tony Slater-Ling on the three episodes, graded on Autodesk Lustre earlier this year. Ensby said: "We mainly used a cooler palette for the show with above-average levels of contrast but still with plenty of detail in the shadows. As the episodes progress and the drama intensifies, so do the visuals and we cranked up the contrast and de-saturated the colours gently, but without losing the sense of realism implied by the images."
Airing on Thursday 25 April 2013, The Politician’s Husband is written by Paula Milne and acts as a bookend to the multi-award winning The Politician's Wife.
The mini-series has been be produced for BBC Two by Daybreak Pictures, and is directed by Simon Cellan Jones, while the three-part serial about marriage, power and politics will see David Tennant and Emily Watson starring as husband and wife.
