Grupo 7 Receives 16 Goya Nominations

Spanish film Grupo 7 was post produced using Mistika and has achieved 16 Spanish Academy Goya Award nominations.
The complete post production of Director Alberto Rodríguez's latest film Grupo 7 was achieved using SGO's Mistika.
The film has been nominated to win 16 Spanish Academy Goya Awards, for categories that include "Best Visual Effects" and "Best Photography". The Mistika system was selected for its advanced toolsets for the entire visual effects process, which included colour grading, compositing, as well as mastering and DCP creation.
Grupo 7 (Unit 7) was filmed using various high-end digital cameras with majority of the footage captured on two Red One Mysterium X cameras at 4K. Car interior scenes and action-packed car chases were shot using the Canon 5D and 7D cameras. The Optocopter shots utilised a Panasonic HD camera. "Due to a wide range of formatted material, Mistika was a huge help in matching different shots from various formats, and giving them a consistent look throughout the film." says Juan Ventura, Colourist and FX Supervisor.
Juan explains how Mistika came to the rescue concerning a resolution challenge within the given footage: "During post production we were a bit concerned with some of the shots where the edge of the image was too sharp and also some aliasing had occurred. Mistika helped us to resolve this in real-time at 4K, without rescaling the material. The change to 2K was achieved using Mistika to correct these issues by adding blurs and re-focusing areas, where required."
Mistika was also very efficient for the compositing work in the project, which took place in real-time during effects previews, significantly accelerating the process. A large number of effects, compositing, cleaning and stabilisations, and much more, were all delivered using Mistika's powerful capabilities.
Juan Ventura adds: "I have been working with Mistika for years and I would not change it for anything. Mistika is outstanding at supporting all the facets of post production and SGO is continually developing the technology, so that it is always ahead of the game."
Grupo 7 is a compelling action movie about a police combat and campaign against drug trafficking. Since its release, box office figures have already exceeded 2 million Euros.
