McMillan make 3D object capture a snap

Following a successful demonstration at the company's Production Show stand, McMillan have become the exclusive dealer in the UK for the latest 3D image capture developed by Eyetronics – ShapeCam.
The newly released ShapeCam offers the content creation industry a hand-held system making the 3D object capture easy to use.
ShapeCam includes a digital camera and a specially designed flash device mounted on a lightweight frame. It allows users to freely move around objects of any size, automatically capturing 3D geometry and textures. The process has been designed to produce accurate 3D digital models that recreate the shape, colour and textures of the original object.
Dirk Callaerts, CEO of Eyetronics, said: "ShapeCam is the first portable 3D-scanning system that gives users total freedom to move around an object and capture it from every angle without recalibration. This is a huge leap for people who want to quickly transform faces, bodies or objects into realistic 3D models anytime and anywhere."
Pictures from ShapeCam are brought to computer on Eyetronics' ShapeSnatcher Suite, generating 3D models from 2D images and stitching the different objects together into one complete model.
For digital content creation applications, ShapeSnatcher Suite XT provides additional tools to export alternative texture maps for captured models, and to reduce polygons for more efficient processing.
For design and reverse engineering applications, ShapeSnatcher Suite CAD adds polygon reduction and surface thickening tools.
