Fusion expands with Courtyard Sheriffs

Courtyard Electronics are supplying three Sheriff serial digital legalisers to Fusion Post Production as a part of their expansion into D’Arblay Street, Soho, London.
In line with Fusion’s commitment to provide a more complete finishing service, the Sheriffs will be used to monitor and correct any video containing illegal colours – whether supplied as source material to the linear and nonlinear edit suites and grading suite, or somehow produced during work.
Ensuring that finished programmes contain only colours within the legal colour gamut is vital – not only as they may otherwise cause problems downstream but also as digital content received by broadcasters is frequently checked.
Richard Wilding, Fusion’s newly appointed Director of Editing, said: "Having researched all the available legalisers so thoroughly and seen how well the Sheriff performed, it was our first choice and we are delighted to have the very best solution to give to our clients."
Sheriff works directly on SDI signals and provides a clear in-picture indication of both the presence and magnitude of any illegal colours. There are many controls to offer flexibility so users can, for example, set the thresholds for legalisation. It then has several methods to bring them within specification without introducing perceptible impairments. This involves the subtle processing techniques developed by Courtyard that are a part of its renowned performance.
Established in 1986, Courtyard Electronics Ltd designs, manufactures and sells a product range whose success stems from its high performance and reliability supplied at competitive prices. Current products include SPGs and changeover units, test pattern generators, colour correctors, on-air and VT clocks, logo generators, character generators and serial legalisers.
Fusion Post Production was started in 1996 by Adam de Wolff and Malcolm Heyworth. With its major expansion in post-production services and selection of talent and equipment, Fusion is looking to grow its broadcast and drama client base. As well as keeping its current premises in Marshall Street, Fusion has also taken a lease on a 7000sq ft building in D’Arblay Street, central Soho.
