Oscar Nominees To Be Announced
The industry is waiting in anticipation as the nominations for this year’s Oscars are announced later tonight.
Meryl Streep, for her portratyal of Maragaret Thatcher and George Clooney, for his role in The Descendants, are expected to lead the race in the best actor and actress categories.
Meanwhile it is predicted that silent film The Artist and drama The Descendants will battle it out for the best picture Oscar.
The 84th Academy Awards take place on Sunday 26 February at the Kodak Theatre, Hollywood. This year's host is comic actor Billy Crystal.
The Artist - about Hollywood's transition from silent movies to "talkies" - has taken the lion's share of top prizes throughout awards season.
It took home a trio of honours from the Golden Globes last week, and leads this year's Baftas with 12 nominations, including best film and best director.
Other films predicted to appear in the best film category are Hugo, civil rights drama The Help and Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris.
Last year British film The Kings Speech 'cleaned-up' at the Oscars- it was crowned best film, with star Colin Firth being named best actor and the movie’s director, Tom Hooper being named best director.
Protecting The Integrity Of The Awards
Once the nominees are announced new rules will prevent the usual parties leading up to the Oscars’ ceronomy.
New rules ban members from attending parties organised by film companies after the nominations are announced.
Voters will still be allowed go to screenings attended by actors but academy president Tom Sherak said last year the rules helped in "protecting the integrity of the awards process".
