Morrissey Is Sole Nominee For BECTU

The broadcast union is to keep its current boss with news that the BECTU General Secretary Gerry Morrissey will soon begin a second term of office.
This starts in February 2012 following the closure of nominations on 23 November.
Gerry received the backing of more than 50 branches in the general secretary nomination process and being the only nominee, the independent scrutineer, Electoral Reform Services, confirmed on 25 November 2011 that he had been elected unopposed.
Responding to his election Gerry said: "I am honoured that so many branches chose to engage with the election process and offered me their support. I extend my thanks to them.
"Our industries continue to face real and pressing challenges and I plan, working with the NEC and BECTU's staff, to continue to provide the leadership which the union needs in order to best represent the interests of current and future members.
"I take this opportunity to encourage the wider membership to become more involved in the union's affairs and to support their reps by responding to local consultations and by attending meetings when possible.
"Our essential work on behalf of the membership would also be boosted by more reps and indeed by more members," he added.
BECTU is the independent trade union for those working in broadcasting, film, theatre, entertainment, leisure, interactive media and allied areas.
The union represents staff and contract and freelance workers who are based primarily in the United Kingdom.
