BVE North Seminar Tackles Industry Issues

BVE North today announced its programme of free CPD accredited seminars that will put the spotlight on the North whilst addressing many of the key industry topics of the moment. Visitors to the show can hear keynote speakers from BBC North, get valuable advice from industry bodies, learn about digital TV and digital production, hear real-world stories about working in 3D and 4D, and bring themselves fully up-to-date with the latest technological advances in their industry.
Two keynote speeches will be delivered by Tim Sargeant, Head of Technology at BBC North, who will discuss BBC North’s technology choices, and by Mark Harrison, Controller of Production at BBC North and the BBC Lead for the Digital Production Partnership.
Harrison commented: “Taking part in the BVE North seminar programme is a great opportunity to extend the dialogue between broadcasters, suppliers and the production community - particularly those based in the North. I’m delighted to have the opportunity to present the findings of the DPP’s report into digital production, and to discuss how to overcome the barriers and how to exploit the opportunities.”
There are three seminar streams at BVE North:
  • The 3D Revolution seminar programme will educate and inform broadcast professionals about the opportunities and possible pitfalls of 3D technology. Industry experts will give practical advice on the do’s and don’ts of 3D production, including renowned 3D producer Vicky Betihavas from Nineteen Fifteen and Richard Hingley, lead stereographer on many 3D productions including the 2010 World Cup and the recent Wimbledon 3D coverage. And taking technology a step further, stereographer David Cox from Sharp Cookies will present a case study on the Blackpool Tower 4D experience.
  • The Broadcast Meets IT, Audio and Content Delivery theatre features sessions on total delivery solutions, data management discussions, social TV and audio for broadcast technology. Highlights include a panel discussion on the monetisation opportunities surrounding multi-platform broadcasting, and engineering expert Andy Wild’s practical sessions on post-production technologies.
  • The Production/Producers/Post stream offers advice and information about how to make great-looking programmes and how to get them on the screen. Key industry bodies will be present, including BECTU giving valuable advice to freelancers and WFTV offering tips on getting factual programmes commissioned. There will be presentations about lighting, colour grading and why the ARRI Alexa camera is taking the production world by storm, while local post-production stalwart Sumners offers its wisdom and experience on the production chain for file-based projects.
The seminars are free to attend but places are limited.
