Less Is More As Radio Station Penalised

The official regulator, Ofcom has shortened the licence period for the radio station More FM (formerly Total Star) Somerset owned by More FM Ltd (formerly One Gold Radio Ltd) by one year.
It said this is for deliberately transmitting at several times above its permitted power level.
This brings forward the expiry date of the licence to 3 July 2012.
Ofcom considered that the breach was serious because of its scale; the length of time for which it continued; the public safety risk it could have posed; and the overall failure of the licensee to maintain control of its service.
Separately, Ofcom's Radio Licensing Committee has decided that, because of the licensee's unsatisfactory record of compliance with licence conditions, it will not be implementing the special application procedure for the re-advertisement of this licence. Therefore, Ofcom will be publishing a full re-advertisement of the Bridgwater & West Somerset licence on Tuesday 2 August, which will have a closing date for applications of 1 December.
