BECTU's Freelance Tax Guide Revised

An important publication for those working freelance in the broadcast industry has been re-issued.
The broadcast union, BECTU's Tax Guide for Freelances has just been updated following liaison with tax inspectors at HMRC, is now online on the organisation's website.
A BECTU statement said members should login to access the document, which is available to download from this page.
The documents covers advice on tax status, accepted schedule D grades, the 7 day rule, Schedule D v PAYE, PAYE: permissible expenses, PAYE: subsistence allowances when working away from base and PAYE: subsistence expenses when working away from base.
It also offers advice on working abroad, VAT, service companies and on National Insurance status.
Meanwhile, the BBC has separately announced in its staff newspaper, Ariel that payments to freelances by cheque will cease.
Freelances have been invited to provide their bank details to the BBC so that payments can be made by BACS (bank transfer).
