Sennheiser Aids Ellie Goulding's 2010 Success

2010 has been a successful year for singer/songwriter Ellie Goulding, having won the 2010 Brits Critics Choice award and the BBC Sound of 2010 poll.
The year has also seen her play many live shows, climaxing with a major UK tour. Throughout, Sennheiser equipment has helped the live performances sound their best.
Ellie and her band have been using Sennheiser microphones and in-ear systems for over a year and her engineers - Richard Geduld at Front of House and Steve Pattison on monitors - have pronounced themselves well pleased.
The rig includes a wired e 945 microphone for Ellie's lead vocal, e 614s and e 604s on the drums and an MD 421 bass mic. For monitoring, Ellie, the band and backing vocalists use ew 300 G2 in-ears, while the recent London show featured a string quartet who were using the newer ew 300 G3s.
Steve said: "We have no wedges, it's a completely clean stage. Everyone is using stereo mixes and the Sennheiser systems deliver high quality audio with exceptional reliability. The company's technical support has also been great, especially at festivals where there's a whole heap of radio frequencies in use."
The Sennheiser microphones are receiving similarly high praise.
Richard said: "Ellie has a particularly broad vocal range, and I have tried a number of different vocal micas. The e 945 is the only one that captures every nuance and delivers the detail I need. It has the sound quality of a high end vocal condenser, with the robust construction and reliability of a dynamic. Its feedback rejection characteristics also allow me unrivalled gain headroom with the minimum of ambient spill."
Steve added: "We supported John Mayer on his tour and, for one show, we switched Ellie's mic for a different one. It just didn't cut it with all the nuances in her vocal in a big arena situation and it was she who asked to switch back to the e 945.
"We got more response and gain from the e 945 and it also has a more condenser-type response in the high end. It's perfect for her voice."
