IABM Launches Technical Training Academy

The IABM (International Association of Broadcasting Manufacturers) has announced the appointment of Roger Crumpton as Director of Education, employment and training.
The appointment coincides with the launch of the IABM's new training academy designed to address the worldwide shortage of qualified broadcast engineers and technicians.
Peter White, Director General of the IABM, said: "Our recent industry surveys have shown that the shortage of skilled technical staff has become a real constraint to growth and the completion of work in progress at broadcast and media technology suppliers. The decline in training provision for broadcast engineers is affecting suppliers as well as broadcasters who are struggling to hire the technical resources they need to keep pace in a rapidly evolving industry.
"Under Roger's skilful management, the IABM's new education, employment and training programme will take aim at this shortage through close collaboration with colleges and universities, induction training for graduates and continuous professional development for established engineers."
A former CEO of the IABM, Crumpton has recently completed a ten-month research project to assess the skills issues and training requirements of the broadcast and media technology sectors on a global basis. The study has involved visits to universities and training facilities as well as interviews with broadcasters and a range of media and broadcast technology suppliers in the US, Asia, Middle East and Europe. The resulting organisations and will begin in 2011.
In his new role with the IABM, Crumpton will provide executive leadership to ensure that the Association's education, employment and training activity are consistent with IABM values and standards. Crumpton has more than 20 years of experience leading international trade associations in the technology sector and launching, managing and organising exhibition and conference events for the information and communication technology industries. For the past five years, Crumpton has focused on research, analysis and commentary for business issues broadcasting suppliers.
