IGL to distribute embedded Mpeg-2 player

Imagine Graphics Limited (IGL) have announced a new product that further boosts their range of display solutions.
IGL is now distributing Adtec Digital’s edje-PDP MPEG-2 digital video player and network device for use with the open architecture expansion slot on Pioneer’s plasma display panels, increasing the future capacity of the products. The edje-PDP has a recommended end-user price of US$1750.00.
The expansion slot, incorporated in Pioneer's 43-inch and 50-inch plasma screens, carrying potential capacity for compatibility with DVI, FireWire (1394), SDI and any other digital or analogue data signal available now or in the future, allows end-users the ability to add or remove various expansion boards, 'future proofing' their investment from the industry's ever-changing technology.
Pammi Mudhar at Pioneer Europe commented: “This now makes Pioneer one of the strongest contenders for the POS and POI market place. The combination of the PDP and the new edje module gives the customer the first ever plasma display panel with a hard-disk based MPEG-2 player actually inbuilt. Currently there is no competition for the edje-PDP in this marketplace and format.”
The new edje-PDP digital video player and network appliance, has further helped 'future proof' Pioneer's plasma display panels by leveraging the expansion slot to accept a modified version of the popular edje. The edje-PDP will work in other makes and models of plasma display panels that use Pioneer’s 43” and 50” display technology.
Like the regular edje, the edje-PDP is a hard drive-based digital video player and network appliance developed for integration into global multimedia networks. It facilitates the distribution and playback of up to 12 hours of dynamic broadcast quality MPEG-2 video programs and Bitmap graphics in audio-visual presentations without the use of a PC.
Distribution of video content can be made to the edje-PDP via a Wide Area Network (WAN) or Local Area Network (LAN). In addition the edje-PDP can allow the playback of complex broadcast schedules and control external products via its RS-232 and parallel interfaces.
Norman Garland, MD of Imagine Graphics, commented: “The regular edje MPEG player and network appliance from Adtec Digital is proving very popular in remotely controlled digital video applications such as retail advertising and entertainment. Using the edje-PDP to turn a high quality Pioneer plasma display panel into a self contained digital video player with total remote control of media updating and scheduling via standard networking is a very exciting prospect. No external equipment will be involved in typical installations - the plasma display panel will only need power and network connections.”
